Q:
What is Project Open Channel?
A:
Project Open Channel is a suite of programs for running small TV-station.
This project is currently in alpha state, but atleast the player should be usable soon.
Q:
Who might need this?
A:
Since digital TV is very much coming to more general use, amount of channels can be easily
increased and small channels can exist more easily. The costs for running a channel like
this can still be quite big. Project Open Channel is created for use of
OUBS
at first, but since the project expanded, it was though to be usefull for others also.
Softwares this project contains are free of charge under GPL license.
Q:
What parts are needed/included?
A:
Project Open Channel consists of many parts. Externaly atleast
PostgreSQL
database is needed. Platforms are Linux and Microsoft Windows, programs are not
platform independent, so both are needed. Following is a list of applications
and their purpose in the project:
LPlay: Displays the actual picture in the TV.
Loopperi: Used to design program flow for LPlay.
DBGUI: For accessing the database, interacts with loopperi.
IViewer: Displaying clips example between live transmission.
Q:
Platform and hardware support
A:
This project is divided into many parts, mostly applications. Those parts need
different platforms. The player itself (LPlay) works under Linux and needs atleast
Pentium 4 processor (actually SSE2 enabled processor should be enough, but Pentium 4
is the only tested platform). Loopperi, DBGUI and IViewer need Microsoft Windows XP.
Project Open Channel uses
PostgreSQL
as database management system.
LPlay: Linux and Pentium 4 processor (SSE2-support)
Loopperi: Microsoft Windows XP
DBGUI: Microsoft Window XP
IViewer: Microsoft Window XP
Q:
